A brief description of Commonwealth Scholarship
The National University of Singapore (NUS) provides the Commonwealth Scholarship for outstanding graduate students from the countries of for research leading to a higher (master’s or doctorate) degree at the University. This scholarship is intended for new incoming students who are not residents of Singapore or permanent citizens. A number of students are always selected by the University for the grant each semester.

Value/inclusions of Scholarships
The award of the Commonwealth scholarship covers all tuition fees as well as the offer of a monthly allowance of $2,000 for doctoral applicants and $1,500 for master’s applicants.
Scholarship recipients in a doctoral program may be eligible for an additional monthly allowance of up to $500 every month after successfully completing the doctoral qualification exam (QE). This exam is normally taking place 12 to 18 months after the registration of the application. The additional allowance is renewable every six months subject to the good performance of the fellow. The amount and duration of the additional allowance may vary between schools and faculties.
The grant is valid for one year initially and may then, subject to satisfactory progress by the scholarship holder, be renewed each semester at the discretion of the University. The maximum duration of the scholarship is a good 2 years for master’s candidates and 4 years for doctoral students.
Eligibility for the Scholarship
The exceptionally qualified applicants are citizens of all Commonwealth countries except for residents of Singapore and permanent citizens of Singapore. They must have an undergraduate degree with at least second class honors (upper division) / honors (distinction) or the equivalent. Also, they must have been gained admission to a full-time research program at the NUS at the time of the award. They must also be persons eligible for the subsidy from the Ministry of Education (MEO).
Scholarship Application instructions
The incoming graduate students have to indicate their interest in the scholarship during the time of application for admission to the full-time research program. The application deadline for entry in August 2023 will be November 1 of this year (2023).
